The Delta Dental Foundation Grant

The Delta Dental Foundation (DDF) awarded a $1,000 Smiles for Kids grant to the Pathways Center, Inc. to benefit their Bright Smiles program. This grant will help to provide dental care to children with autism or other disabilities who may struggle to find a dentist that is able to provide the necessary services.

Recent estimates in the United States show that about one in six, or about 15 percent, of children aged 3 to 17 years have one or more developmental disabilities. Children with disabilities often take medications that can cause tooth decay or discoloration, and the Bright Smiles program works to ensure that these children receive important dental care, regardless of lack of dental insurance or financial assistance needs.

“We are so grateful to the Delta Dental Foundation for awarding us a Smiles for Kids grant, which will help us provide care to this vulnerable population,” said Deanna Williams, executive director of the Pathways Center. “It’s crucial that children with autism and many other diagnoses have access to dental treatment. With the help of this grant, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of those who may not be able to speak for themselves.”
